Gunner Yuna
One of my first costumes when I began cosplaying was Fairy Yuna from Kingdom Hearts II. I had such an amazing experience cosplaying as her that she immediately became a character very close to my heart! Almost nine years later, I finally finished her Gunner version – which took 2.5 years to complete due to the hunt for the perfect materials! (Gullwings, GO!)
My Yuna wig began life as a Westley from Arda Wigs in Spanish Brown. I used extra wefts from this wig to complete the bottom of the hair tail. The bottom wrap was made from silk charmeuse that was acid-dyed to create the pink gradient. The hair tail attached to the wig with a hair elastic.
The necklace pieces were made from Sculpey, while the earring pieces were made from Worbla and wooden beads.
I used yellow marine vinyl for the armbands; they are laced with suede. The bracelet is made from crocodile-textured clothing PVC. Her Zanarkand symbol was sculpted from Worbla and covered with clothing PVC. The upper portion of the top was made from white spandex milliskin; the middle section was rib knit; and the bottom hem was finished with white and pink lace. The hood was made from coral-colored knit. The accessory pouch was made from tan suiting fabric with off-white suede fringe. The buckle for the belt was sculpted from Worbla.
For the waist skirt, I used cotton gauze fabric to replicate the texture from the CG references. They were gradient dyed with royal blue RIT Dye. The upper portion of the skirt was made from cotton sateen that was dyed in the same bath to match. All of the waist tiers were hand-gathered.
I collaborated with a designer (Jérémie Gonçalves) from MyMiniFactory to have Yuna’s Tiny Bee guns 3D-printed. A work log of this prop creation process is available here.
