Tharja
This costume was definitely an example of pushing myself outside my comfort zone. Not only was I still learning how to use Worbla, but it forced me to portray a character who is quite far from my typical M.O.! Tharja exudes dark sensuality, whereas I’m a grey potato. In the end, cosplaying as her ended up being a very empowering experience!
My Tharja wig is a Nyx from Epic Cosplay in the color Dark Purple. It ended up being too vibrant of a purple initially, so I hand-colored it with black Sharpies to tone down the vibrancy.
For draping purposes, I used stretch velvet for Tharja’s cape. It was insanely warm and heavy but I loved how it flowed and photographed! I used navy for the outside and a deep eggplant color for the lining. It was a 3/4-circle cape to give it plenty of volume.
My collar and other “armor” pieces were made from Worbla.
My bodystocking was made from several pairs of pantyhose sewn together. The seams were hidden at the shoulders (armscyes), and at the hips.
Sometimes, we must sacrifice things for cosplay… so to create Tharja’s spellbook, I took my copy of Breaking Dawn, painted it dark purple, painted the page edges gold, then glued on painted pieces of craft foam for the gold accents.
