Kousaka Reina
Of all the shows I’ve ever seen, Hibike! Euphonium is one that hit the closest to my heart. Having been trumpet section leader during high school, many of the challenges faced by the characters (especialy Reina) are ones I’ve faced myself. The moment I saw the marching uniforms, I knew I would be making one – because they’re much cuter than my own marching uniform ever was!
For the base shape of the shako, I used a round paper mache box, then covered the box with blue sateen. To create the symbol, I made triangles out of the red poplin and yellow sateen, with a center accent made from craft foam. This was glued to the shako. The brim of the shako was made from craft foam and glued on. The shako attaches to the wig with a hair comb.
The uniform jacket was drafted using Simplicity #2341 as a base, then heavily modified. The front of the jacket was all one piece; the back had a separating sports zipper in it to allow for changing (the tab and capelet snapped into place after zipping). It was made using white cotton twill, red poplin, and blue cotton sateen. The yellow trim was made from bias tape that was dyed to match the yellow sateen used for the skirt. For the skirt, I included 10 pleats in total: 4 in the front, 4 in the back, and 1 on each side. I also drafted a simple yoke for the top of the skirt.
